Just like adults, children can develop dental problems. It’s therefore important that they take good care of their teeth and gums and have regular dental checkups.
A child’s first visit to a dental office should be around his or her third birthday.
The most important part of the first visit is for your child to get to know and become comfortable with the doctor and staff. A pleasant and comfortable first visit builds trust and helps put your child at ease for future visits.
To help put your child at ease, let him or her sit in your lap in the exam room. Encourage your child to tell you about any fear or anxiety s/he may have. Respond by telling him or her that it’s okay to feel some fear, and that the dentist is there to help their teeth stay happy and healthy.
